The ams AS3955 NFC dynamic tag IC can provide independent near field communication (NFC) passive tag function in a small footprint. The highly sensitive ISO14443A front end and integrated resonant capacitor make the AS3955 an ideal solution for adding NFC functionality to electronic devices. The company said that SPI and I²C interfaces and optimized protocols (tunnel mode and extended mode) "guarantee" fast system integration and high-speed data transmission. It allows two-way communication between the device microcontroller and an external NFC-compatible device or ISO14443A reader device. It is also fully powered by the RF field, eliminating the need for an external power supply. The dynamic tag also has advanced energy harvesting capabilities to extend battery life or achieve a batteryless design, and supports ISO 14443A up to level 4. The device is designed according to EMVCo requirements and can emulate contactless smart cards or NFC forums that comply with Type 2 or Type 4 tags. The AS3955 is designed for high reliability and can operate in a wide power supply range (1.65V to 5.5V) and a wide temperature range (-40C to + 125C). The company's products claim that the device's EEPROM memory is of automotive-grade quality, can withstand 100,000 cycles, and retain 10 years of data at a temperature of 125C.
