Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has released a new series of high-power, high-current mica gate resistors in standard mill sizes. Vishay Milwaukee GREM resistors provide designers with a lower cost option than standard stainless steel grid designs. It provides EDG technology to improve power capacity, weight and power density while maintaining the same package size. The device released today has a power of 8kW at 40 C, which is 23% higher than the standard 6500W stainless steel grid resistance of a standard rolling mill size. At the same time, GREM devices are 30% lighter and cheaper than stainless steel gate resistors with the same power consumption. These specifications make the device suitable for dynamic braking, load balancing and motor control in low vibration industrial and alternative energy applications. These resistors have a resistance range of 0.067Ohm to 24.273Ohm, tolerances of 10%, temperature coefficients as low as 130ppm / C, and current ranges of 18A to 345A. The device can operate at a high temperature of + 415C.
