ROHM has designed a new module with integrated antenna board, small wireless charging modules: BP3621 (transmitter) and BP3622 (receiver). Enables developers to add wireless power functionality to smaller devices, including smart tags/cards or PC peripherals.

Wireless power technology can eliminate terminal contact and improve the waterproof and dustproof ability of the device. Wireless power is increasingly used in smartphones, smartwatches and other small devices in our daily lives. However, existing low frequency standards for power transmission -- coupled with restrictive antenna designs -- limit the degree of miniaturization that can be achieved. These constraints are increasing the demand for compact devices where standards and methods are prevalent. In addition, power transmission efficiency can vary -- depending on the size, shape and distance of the antenna. As a result, repeated prototyping, tuning and evaluation of the system are often required, which is a significant development burden for antenna design and layout.

The company has produced a 13.56MHz wireless charging module for this, allowing users to effortlessly add wireless power capabilities to thin and compact devices. Measuring only 20mm² to 30mm² each, the device includes an optimized antenna (coil) layout. It allows a compact wireless charging system configuration, utilizing the 13.56MHz band to deliver 200mW. The all-flat backplane construction enables installation in thin, compact devices - contributing to better flexibility in chassis design than traditional solutions. Additionally, using the transmitter and receiver modules as a pair can greatly reduce the development load of the prototyping, evaluation, tuning, etc. processes required for efficient wireless charging. Meanwhile, the built-in antenna supports two-way data communication and NFC Forum 3 tag operation, expanding the applicability.

Examples include small devices, such as smart labels, smart cards, and ID cards; Mouse, remote control and other PC peripheral devices; And portable medical equipment.
