Infineon Technologies AG has released a plug and play security solution for V2X -- the SLS37 V2X Hardware Security Module (HSM). The SLS37 V2X HSM is based on a highly secure, tamper-resistant microcontroller designed for the security needs of V2X applications in telematics control units. It protects the integrity and authenticity of messages, as well as the privacy of the sender. HSM received Common Criteria AL4+ certification, which is expected to become mandatory for V2X systems in Europe.
In v2x host environment, discrete HSM can help system integrators solve the contradiction between high performance and high security. Therefore, the scope of the device is directed to high security tasks, such as key storage and generating signatures for outgoing messages. This eliminates the security authentication burden of the host processor running the Linux operating system, the security authentication burden of the application software, and the verification of the incoming message with low security but high performance requirements
In addition to vehicle telematics units, targeted applications for V2X HSM include roadside units or other infrastructure for V2X communication. The solution supports all major vehicle identification management systems, including SCMS, CCMS and ESP. It has a supply voltage range from 1.6V to 3.6V, with a high-speed SPI interface up to 10MHz, and complies with the AEC-Q100 standard for harsh automotive applications.
