Infineon Technologies has launched the industry's first high-voltage MCU supporting USBPD 3.1. Ez-pd PMG1 (Power Delivery Microcontroller Gen1) is the company's first generation USB PD MCU designed to provide or consume up to 28V (140W) of high voltage for any embedded system. The new products are suitable for consumer, industrial and communications markets, with applications including routers, smart speakers, power supplies and gardening tools. The device supports higher power capabilities as defined in the USB PD 3.1 specification and uses MCU to provide further control capabilities.
The series integrates a market-proven USB PD stack to promote reliable performance and interoperability. It offers an Arm Corcortex -M0/M0+ processor, up to 256KB flash and 32KB SRAM, USB full speed device, programmable GPIO pins, door driver, LDO regulator and high voltage protection circuit. The MCU also provides hardware and firmware protection, including overvoltage and overcurrent protection, short circuit and reverse current protection, secure firmware startup and signed firmware update.
The MCU is also field programmable to provide signed firmware updates to improve efficiency. Programming is supported by the ModusToolbox integrated Development environment, THE PMG1 software development kit, the prototyping kit, and the Quick Start Guide. They make firmware development and testing simple and easy, further reducing overall development time and time to market. To improve the ease of use for designers, the new device also combines programmable analog and digital modules to easily customize and integrate smart analog sensors into applications.
"As the leader in power semiconductors, we are excited to bring the new PMG1 family to market. This will allow Oems to further differentiate their consumer, industrial and commercial applications, "said Ajay Srikrishna, senior vice president of Infineon's wired Connectivity Solutions product line. "Consistent with our mission, this MCU enables our customers to bring new products to market that help make everyday life easier, safer and more environmentally friendly for consumers."
