Shute's new universal modular fuse UMT-H provides a breaking capacity of 1500A at a rated voltage of 277VAC / 250VDC. Compact high-performance fuses are now VDE certified in addition to UL certification. This time-delay fuse provides overcurrent and short-circuit protection in a variety of industrial control applications, including intrinsically safe applications.
The "intrinsically safe" method is one of the most common techniques used to achieve safety protection on lower voltage or power equipment. This method limits the electrical and thermal energy available in the system, so that no hazardous environments (such as explosive gases, dust or electric arcs) will burn. UMT-H's high breaking capacity is 1500A, plus the spacing between end caps is> 10 mm, and its ability to impermeable conformal coating makes this fuse suitable for this intrinsically safe application.
UMT-H fuses provide 19 current ratings between 160 mA and 10 A at 277 VAC and 250 VDC. UMT-H measures 5.3mm x 16mm and is a smaller alternative to traditional cylindrical box fuses (eg 5mm x 20mm). The smaller footprint saves valuable board space, which can further reduce device size. UMT-H has a square design and is also suitable for more cost-effective automated assembly. High breaking capacity fuses comply with IEC 60127-7 / 1, UL 248-14 and CSA C22.2 standards and their VDE and UL certifications. The company said other applications include power supplies, electric vehicles, medical and telecommunications applications, and equipment connected to 277 VAC utilities.
