X9429 integrates a single digital control potentiometer (XDCP) on a single CMOS integrated circuit. The digital control potentiometer is realized by using 63 resistor elements in series array. Between each element is a tap point which is connected to the wiper terminal through a switch. The user controls the wiper position on the array through the 2-wire bus interface. One volatile wiper counter register (WCR) and four non-volatile data registers associated with the potentiometer can be written directly and read by the user.

Detailed function diagram
The content of the WCR controls the position of the wiper on the resistor array through the switch. Power on to recall the contents of the default data register (DR0) to WCR. XDCP can be used as a three terminal potentiometer or as a two terminal variable resistor in a variety of applications, including control, parameter adjustment, and signal processing.
