Power Integrations announced the latest member of its ChiPhy charger interface IC series CHY103D, which is the first offline AC-DC charger IC compatible with Quick Charge (QC) 3.0 protocol from Qualcomm subsidiary Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. The company uses InnoSwitch AC-DC switching IC next to Power Integrations. This CHY103D device integrates all the functions required to support QC 3.0. The QC 3.0 protocol implemented in the CHY103D device greatly reduces the loss of smart phone handheld devices during fast charging. This allows system designers to choose to charge the phone faster or lower the touch temperature of the phone during the charging process, and improve the efficiency of the charging process. This IC improves charging efficiency and reduces heat dissipation by making the voltage change in 200mV increments instead of the larger steps used in many current fast charging designs (for example, from 5V to 9V or 12V). This technology enables mobile devices to optimize the power supply voltage of offline chargers, thereby minimizing losses in the mobile phone's internal charge management system. CHY103D includes a variety of protection functions, including adaptive output overvoltage protection (AOVP) (which can prevent the output from exceeding 120% of the set output voltage), and output soft short circuit protection (OSSP) (which can detect a partial short circuit and stop supplying power to the output). Prevents cables and connectors from overheating, and has a Remote Shutdown Protection (RESP) feature, which enables powered devices to remotely shut down the adapter when a fault is detected. The CHY103D device itself consumes less than 1mW at 5V output; the company said that the combination of this low power consumption with the efficient InnoSwitch device can help designers meet stringent efficiency requirements for chargers, such as the upcoming revision of the US Federal External power standard. Shyam Dujari, director of marketing for Power Integrations, added: "Fast charging of mobile devices requires more power than traditional charging, so how to avoid overheating is a key issue. CHY103D helps solve this problem by improving charging efficiency. We are very I am pleased to work with Qualcomm Technologies to enhance the usability of mobile devices through Quick Charge 3.0 technology. " This device is suitable for battery chargers for mobile devices such as tablets, smartphones, Bluetooth accessories and various USB power output ports. They are also compatible with Quick Charge 2.0 products.
