OmniVision announced the introduction of OV08X, which is the industry's first 0.7 micron pixel CMOS sensor capable of 4K video capture at 1/5.7 inch optical size. OV08X can adapt to a variety of 16:10 (1920x1200) aspect ratio displays, and only occupies 4mm in the vertical length (y-axis). It is the first image sensor in the notebook computer market that integrates a four unit color filter array and on chip hardware puzzle, and can provide high-quality 9.2 million Bayer (Bayer format refers to that most color image sensors only sense the color of one of the RGB three channels at each pixel position, to save manufacturing costs) output in real time.
Achim Chen, marketing manager of OmniVision, said: "Users no longer need to rely on external webcams for high-quality video calls. OMNIVISION's OV08X image sensor enables high-end and flagship notebook designers to use high-resolution 4K cameras to create the thinnest device. We also meet the needs of many users working and learning at home through the new OV08X, including automatic viewfinder, human presence detection and high dynamic range (HDR) image capture".
