NXP Semiconductors N.V. has announced the addition of 4-channel dual-polarized analog beamformers MMW9012K and MMW9014K to its 5G portfolio, as well as an antenna system development kit. Both analog beamformers use NXP's silicon germanium (SiGe) technology, which supports dual polarization and can improve the reliability of 5G mmWave solutions, improve integration, reduce the size and cost of 5G base stations, and at the same time Reduce power consumption. The antenna development system allows OEMs to easily and quickly complete panel design and build 5G antenna systems faster.

Product Importance

5G mmWave solutions are typically deployed in densely populated urban areas, with higher frequencies and bandwidths to better meet user demands for higher bit rates. However, the higher the frequency, the smaller the coverage area of the millimeter-wave signal; at the same time, interference from buildings or other obstacles can also reduce the coverage area. NXP’s 4-channel dual-polarization analog beamformer is able to more accurately direct the synchronized beam to the user, thereby reducing the propagation losses common in 5G mmWave deployments and improving the overall reliability of the system.

More details

The MMW9012K and MMW9014K further complement NXP's existing 5G product family, which comprehensively covers the main power classes and frequency ranges in 5G base stations. The MMW9012K operates at 28 GHz, while the MMW9014K operates at 26 GHz. Both devices offer high transmit and receive gain (2.5% EVM at 9 dBm Pout).

Doeco Terpstra, vice president and general manager of the Smart Antenna Solutions product line at NXP, said: "As 5G deployments continue to advance, more and more consumers are beginning to enjoy the convenience of 5G mmWave. Its reliability has also become more and more More and more important, OEMs need to be able to accurately direct the synchronized beams to different users, providing users with the low latency and high bandwidth brought by 5G mmWave. At the same time, OEM manufacturers can use dual polarization in a single antenna panel to improve 5G mm The integration of wave panels reduces system size and cost.”

The new Antenna System Development Kit complements the dual-polarized analog beamformer, helping to reduce time-to-market and speed up antenna panel design. The development kit uses an 8x8 antenna dot matrix panel and includes a control board with GUI and power supply.
