Microchip technology is designed to enable car designers to provide a variety of aspect ratios for car touch screens. The new maXTouch touch controller has been released and this new product includes further functional safety support required by Oems.

This feature allows clients to efficiently utilize the number of available touch channels without having to choose a larger, more expensive touch controller. The MXT1296M1T can be reconfigured with its drive and receive touch channels in the same screen format, from 1:1 to 5:1 aspect ratio, including the popular 8:3 automobile aspect ratio. The device is the first in the industry to allow sensor channels to be reconfigured through parameters. These Settings do not require firmware modifications, reducing design risk and speeding time to market. In addition, customers can reuse a common PCB design that supports aspect ratios for a variety of touch sensors, saving time and resources for further development and validation.

Clayton pillion, head of human-computer interface business unit of microchip technology, said: "as touch display becomes more and more popular in automotive user interface, automobile manufacturers are using a variety of display formats and shapes to adapt to their interior design and emphasize their brand identity." "As the largest supplier of automotive touch screen controller, we know that products with enhanced diagnostic function are a significant advantage for customers who have unique functions in design and continuously improve the functional safety requirements of ISO 26262."

The new touch screen controller enables a bridge-free connection to the reverse channel of the LVDS video link to obtain touch information and connects to the local MCU, allowing both communication interfaces to operate simultaneously. It also ensures full compatibility with the maXTouch software driver, which works with all major automotive operating systems, including Linux, Android, and QNX. Bridge-free topology reduces touch delay and improves user experience.
