Microchip has released two next-generation Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) solutions with easy-to-use ASCII-style command interfaces that make these devices easy to configure and eliminate any complex code compilation. The RN4870 and RN4871 support the latest Bluetooth 4.2 specifications and integrate a Bluetooth stack with a scripting engine on the board to achieve independent operation and eliminate the need for MCUs for simple applications. These next-generation devices can speed time to market and increase total manufacturing costs. Compared to the previous generation of products based on the Bluetooth 4.0 standard, the data throughput of these devices has increased by 2.5 times. In addition, the new solution provides connection security based on FIPS and advanced features. These devices can seamlessly transmit serial data through BLE devices and can support different beacon formats such as iBeacon or Eddystone with a single command. Both devices with shielding options are fully certified, comply with global regulatory standards, and offer 6mm x 8mm compact package options. This, combined with the company's user-friendly interface, helps speed time to market for customers. Each module has an on-board software stack that pairs well with their wide range of low-power MCUs or any MCU with a UART interface. These devices are designed to complement the company's various low-energy solutions designed for IoT applications. Microchip also offers the RN4870 Bluetooth 4.2 Low Power PICtail / PICtail Plus Daughter Board (RN-4870-SNSR) with a sensor board.
