ADI has released the Power by Linear ADM1266 supersequencer, a highly programmable device for monitoring, sequencing, and margining up to 17 power supplies. For a larger number of tracks, the proprietary two-wire device bus can synchronize the operation of 16 ADM1266. A built-in sequencing engine monitors each power failure detector, universal input / output, and timer to turn the power on and off in a user-defined order. All configurations are performed through the intuitive ADI Power Studio GUI, reducing design time. The device provides a highly flexible and simple solution to maintain complex power systems on FPGA, ASIC and processor boards in network routers, switches, servers and data storage systems.
The device integrates an ADC and 9 voltage output DACs to adjust the feedback node or reference of the DC-DC converter to implement a closed-loop autonomous margin adjustment system. When the sequencing engine configuration is instructed, non-volatile EEPROM records voltage, time, and fault information to speed up fault debugging.
This device, along with ADI Power Studio software, provides a feature-rich, configurable state machine to meet complex sequencing requirements. Built-in debugging features (such as breakpoints and black boxes) and software setup wizards reduce development and debugging time from days to hours. The inter-device bus between multiple devices ensures that they work like a single device, providing an intuitive design process. By handling all the complexity, the software creates a seamless design experience from track 17 to 257.
