U-blox has launched a set of Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth expansion cards that plug into NXP Semiconductors' I.MX processor evaluation suite. The card, adhering to the M.2 form factor, connects the U-Blox module powered from NXP by a wireless SOC.

"These new cards from U-Blox utilize our highly integrated 88W8987 and 88Q9098 Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth chipsets that can be easily plugged into the M.2 slot of our I.MX Evaluation and Development kit, making it easier for developers to explore the many wireless connectivity possibilities their modules support."
The company is launching two wireless connection cards based on its JODY module. The card is produced by the M.2 Model 2230 key E-form factor, socket offered by the latest series of NXP I.MX evaluation boards.
The M2-JODY-W3 card includes a u-blox JODY-W3 Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 module. The module's NXP 88Q9098 chipset supports IEEE 802.11ax and dual-mode Bluetooth 5.1. It runs concurrent dual-band Wi-Fi 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks using dual MACs and a 2x2 MIMO antenna setup in each band.
Use cases for these powerful components include industrial automation, remote diagnostics and patient monitoring, vehicle navigation and telematics, in-vehicle infotainment and hands-free audio, payment terminals, security cameras, and other applications that require high data rates. These new cards can be used to evaluate wireless connectivity options for the NXP I.MX evaluation suite and embedded system boards produced by NXP partners.
To make it easy to use the M2-Jody-W3 and M2-Jody-W2 cards with older evaluation boards that don't offer an M.2 socket, the company offers a convenient microsD-to-M.2 adapter that can be connected to a standard microSD slot or microSD-to-SD adapter, For boards with standard SD slots.
