VPG Foil Resistors has released the FRFS0402, its smallest ultra-high precision block foil technology resistor, which features a face-off structure that improves conventional flip technology.
The device can be used in avionics, defense, and space (AMS) applications. It is also ideal for telecom networking equipment (including 5G, downhole data centers or fiber optics), medical equipment (including pacemakers or hearing AIDS), high temperature applications, automatic test equipment (ATE), mid-range audio, handheld instruments and other small instrumentation or control equipment.
The company has invented a unique flip chip structure with a stand that provides a breakthrough in installation reliability and assembly efficiency as it provides regular visual inspection and increases solder joint robustness. In addition, due to improved heat dissipation, thicker terminals increase the power ratings of the components and provide 40% less PCB space than traditional packaged components. After more than two years of production use, its flip chip design has not encountered any known welding cracks or other installation problems.
Originally custom-designed to meet the needs of fibre optic networking equipment manufacturers, the company now offers standard-sourced equipment flip chip packages.
The device uses a Z1 Foil Technology resistor, building on the latest Bulk Metal Foil Technology, making it the best performing 0402 size resistor on the market. It has a maximum TCR of ±2.5ppm/C (-- 55C to +125C, +25C Ref) and has very high typical long-term stability of 0.01% (100ppm) at +70C at 2,000 hours (at rated power).
Large foil technology also offers other inherent advantages of replacing resistors, including tolerance of ±0.05% (500ppm), non-inductive, non-capacitive, non-hot design, and short-time overload capacity of ≤0.01% (100ppm).
