High precision current measurement sensors for track side applications

Technology Cover
Data di Pubblicazione: 2022-01-10, LEM USA Inc.

LEM has introduced a new line of current sensors that can also be used for automation or PV plant control due to its powerful design and standardized 4-20mA output. The transducer's innovative primary circuit (patent pending) combines two ASics to detect magnetic fields, allowing precise current measurements. Ideal for retrofitting track side applications or reducing the cost of new installations.

The HTRS series offers three current ranges (10A, 30A, 50A) with peak current measurements up to twice the nominal value. Although the insulation test voltage is up to 6kV, the series is compact, measuring 72mm x 29mm x 26 mm. It also provides very good temperature stability, while the mounting adapter enables the unit to be installed in existing applications.

The transducer is IRIS compliant. With this device, users in railway technology can use a range of common sensors, whether they work in railway or signal technology. The series is ideal for measuring current in point machines, gates and signal systems. It could also be used for industrial applications, such as process automation in solar parks or DC collection.

The core design provides 2% overall accuracy at +25 ° C and high-temperature stability in the operating temperature range from -40 ° C to +85 ° C. The series has a measurement frequency bandwidth (-3 db point) of 1kHz and provides a fast response time of 10μs at 90% of rated current. The current consumption of the maximum primary current is less than 50mA at +12VDC or +24VDC supply voltage.

The transducer weighs only 35 grams, which is more than 70 percent lighter than previous split-core current transducers used in this type of application. Current sensors are designed according to the latest standards in railway technology and industry, including UL and UKCE.
