The Pickering interface provides a new model of a family of high-density precision resistive blocks, improving sensor simulation accuracy. The new model further enables its simulation products to handle more applications than before. The updated 40-297A (PXI) and new 42-297A (PXIe) modules now offer additional resolutions - 0.125 ohms, 0.25 ohms, 0.5 ohms, 1 ohms, 2 ohms, 4 ohms, and 8 ohms - to extend the resistance range Expanded to 85.3MOhm for a single six-channel module. Setting accuracy is now +/-0.1% +/- resolution (was +/-0.2% +/- resolution).

Paul Bovingdon, Simulation Product Manager at Pickering Interfaces, commented: “The new module provides a simple and accurate solution for functional test systems, such as in engine controller testing, where resistive sensors (thermistors/RTDs) can provide information such as temperature and altitude information. We believe that these new models will find acceptance in satellite, aerospace and defense projects, etc. As we add more options, the product selector on our website can help you choose the right one for your application model and even compare the specs of multiple models.”

The block calculates the channel setting closest to the requested value and sets that value. The user can query the module to find the exact resistance setting used by the module. Channels of the 4x-297A can be set as shorted or open to simulate wiring or sensor failures, and can accommodate up to 18 channels into a single-slot module. Using resistor value calls simplifies software control.

Validation is performed with the UUT disconnected from the module. Provides VISA and kernel drivers for Windows, generic drivers for Linux, and support for other real-time systems, including QNX and LabVIEW RT. Like all of its modules, these come with a three-year warranty. And a calibration cable can be attached to the module, allowing the DMM to verify each channel. This greatly simplifies checking of module calibration.
