Microchip Technology Inc. announced the launch of the new industrial-grade TrustFLEX ECC608 and car-grade Trust Anchor TA100, as well as security key configuration services for Qi 1.3 power transmitters. The WPC published the Qi 1.3 specification with an extended power profile to ensure high quality wireless charging power transmitters. This new specification created a need for high-security silicon-certified devices that provide full service support. The new solution is an integrated secure storage subsystem that combines the key configuration of the consumer and vehicle systems.

The Qi 1.3 specification now requires the addition of a secure storage subsystem with secure key provisioning (including X.509 certificates) to cryptographically verify the origin and quality of certified power transmitters. When a receiver, such as a cell phone, is placed on a Qi 1.3 powered transmitter, it can initially accept a 5W charge or no charge at all. Then, after a successful X.509-based ECC certification proves that the charger is an approved, "harmless" device, the phone will safely accept 15W charging, significantly reducing charging time.

Microchip is now a WPC-licensed manufacturing CA that not only provides a pre-configured secure storage subsystem solution to reduce complexity and development time, but also reduces the technical barriers to entry by handling the entire key ceremony with the WPC root Certificate Authority on behalf of corporate customers. It is a one-stop shop for Qi 1.3 solutions by providing a complete certification reference design, including application MCU, Qi 1.3 software stack, secure storage subsystem, support cryptographic library, and services for automotive and consumer applications.

Nuri Dagdeviren, vice president, Security Products group, Microchip Technology said:"Our WPC secure storage subsystem solution is a testament to Microchip's continued commitment to facilitating the large-scale deployment of state-of-the-art security architectures in embedded systems,"  "Every day we lower the barriers to entry for our customers in the wireless charging market into this complex but vital technology."
