ERNI Electronics has expanded its product range on IDC terminals. New variants of stranded wires (AWG24 / 7 and AWG26 / 7) have been added to the existing solid wire AWG24 / 1 and AWG22 / 7 (stranded wire) products. Can handle wires with a maximum diameter of 1.1mm (including insulation).
The newly introduced IDC terminal and the already available AWG22 variant are also available in new colors such as natural, red, green and black. New color variants give designers the option to color-code the layout, reducing errors during wire connection (integration). Compact IDC terminals are ideal for reliable PCB connections, especially in space-sensitive applications such as lighting (LED, OLED, etc.), medical equipment, smart metering, headsets, and various mobile devices.
The new IDC-PCB terminal eliminates the need to manually prepare (remove) the wires before terminating. Dual IDC contacts provide a highly reliable hermetic connection to the wire. This means that expensive and unreliable manual soldering processes can be avoided, and discrete wires that can be reliably copied and processed can be used instead.
Compared with other solutions, its overall size (3.3mm x 3.3mm x 2.8mm) and the required PCB space are much smaller. An integrated cover (housing) guides the wires into the dual design terminals while also acting as a strain relief mechanism. Other features include versions with closed ends (wire stop) or pass-through (daisy chain function). The guide latches in the contact elements ensure proper connection, while the tents ensure a firm fixation.
Despite their compact size, they can support a maximum ampacity of 14A (AWG 24/7 at 20C) or 12A (AWG 26/7). IDC terminals are rated over -40C to 150C.
The new IDC terminals are supplied in tape and reel packaging (2000 pieces) to facilitate fully automated circuit board assembly. The company says they are suitable for back-flow reflow soldering on modern SMT lines.
