Renesas Electronics has released an autosar-compliant CDD software module, and the new software is matched to its ISL78714 lithium-ion battery management IC to accelerate the design of next-generation systems and optimize performance. For electric vehicle BMS designers.

CDD provides the MCAL module required to configure and integrate the RH850 microcontroller. It provides a complete low-level software solution for collecting cell voltage and temperature measurements to control the IC's cell balancing function. Configurable parameters determine the number of batteries in the BMS system and the preferred battery data collection rate. The CDD software was developed in conjunction with the company's Winning Combination BMS reference design hardware kit, which includes the ISL78714 IC and RH850/P1M MCU.

CDD software provides a simple but full-featured API that enables end-user applications to receive battery measurement data in real-time. The software interface and protocol management required to operate the ISL78714 is built into the CDD software and runs on top of the existing low-level SPI, GPIO and GPT drivers included in the MCAL module. CDD software provides customers with a functional architecture that simplifies software design. It allows them to focus on their unique application characteristics.

"The combination of the Renesas ISL78714 IC with our new CDD software can help our customers get the best performance from their battery management systems, reducing development schedules while reducing development time," said Neil Lane, vice president of Renesas Automotive's Analog Power and Video Business Unit. Alleviating the difficult process of meeting stringent ASIL D safety requirements. “Also as the electric vehicle market continues to expand rapidly, battery management is a key factor in the success of new vehicles. "

Chris Klesyk, Vice president of Battery Management at Next Energy said:"The unique capabilities of the Renesas ISL78714 battery Management IC, combined with the new CDD software, provide a powerful platform for developing integrated BMS,"  "This technology partnership is critical to ONE's current BMS needs and provides a pathway for future enhancements."
