The MAX3237E consists of 5 line drivers, 3 line receivers and a dual charge pump circuit with ±15 kv ESD protection pin-to-pin (serial port connection pins including GND). The device meets the TIA/EIA-232-F requirements and provides an electrical interface between an asynchronous communication controller and a serial port connector.
The charging pump and four small external capacitors allow power supply from a single 3v to 5.5v. The data signaling rate of the device is 250kbit /s in normal working mode (MBAUD = GND) and 1Mbit/s in MBAUD = VCC. The maximum output conversion rate of the driver is 30v /ms.
When the device is in off mode (SHDN = GND) and the power current drops to less than 1ma, the MAX3237E transmitter is disabled and the output is forced into the high impedance state. In addition, the on-board charge pump is disabled during the shutdown; V+ goes down to VCC and V - goes up to GND.
The receiver output can also be set to a high impedance state by setting the enable (EN) high. ROUT1B always remains active regardless of EN and SHDN conditions. MAX3237EC characteristic is the working temperature is 0 ° C to 70 ° C. MAX3237EI feature is working temperature is to 40 ° C to 85 ° C.
